i came up for a cool idea for a game

ok here it is

it's a vertical shooter

one guy plays with just the mouse. he moves the ship around by moving and shoots with mouse1

PRETTY STANDARD

second guy uses the keyboard and controls enemy ships. there is a constant stream of enemy ships that flood in from the top. each one of them looks like a key on the keyboard. pressing that key makes the corresponding ship fire.

does this not sound cool already?!

pressing a key for which there is no on-screen ship will make an on-screen ship blow up, so no just mashing your hand on the keyboard.

also shift-pressing a key will make that ship blow up in an area-of-effect attack. my friend came up with this one. and holding down a key will make that ship move towards the enemy.

the first shot fired by any key will be more devastating and it will home and such, not easy to dodge. after that the ship will only fire weak shots for awhile until it is given time to rest. time needed to charge up a big shot will lessen the more other ships are fired. this encourages players to utilize all their ships as much as they can. the charge could be indicated by the ship changing colour or something.

both players score points for destroying the other. also the mouse player might get some thing like once he kills enough ships he can set off an attack that makes the corresponding keys for the enemy ships shuffle or something.

also maybe the player controlling the enemy force can get points for something besides just killing the mouse player because that shouldn't happen too often.

i'd like this to be a game where the difficulty for each player ramps up as his skill does. at the keyboard end, i'd like it to become something like a beatmania-style rhythm-action game where they must quickly identify the relevant ships that haven't fired in a bit and press that key as fast as possible. of course, ships keep dying and getting replaced, so the keys they have to use keep changing. and, it would smoothly get harder, with the game adding more ships at one time as the game progresses.

on the mouse players' side, he essentially has to play a shooter that is as hard as his friend makes it. so early on it might be easy, but as they both improve, welcome to touhou-style bullet hell.

i want to make this game and i actually don't think it would be all that hard

but i have no time.

school, etc.

hm, there's definitely the core of a good idea there though it obviously needs some tweaking. if you're ever considering actually making something out of it, let me know?
