a game i made and a pitch for a game i made

so i like those "tactical rpg" games like final fantasy tactics or whatever and i always thought "geez there should be a good PC one with multiplayer"

and then about a week ago i was like "hey i could make a good PC one with multiplayer, what's gonna stop me?"

few programming skills, little motivation, total lack of artistic skills, absolutely no idea how to do half the stuff i wanted to do...

anyways i made a bad PC one with pseudo-multiplayer.

actually i haven't made much of anything yet. but you can do a bare-bones battle with a friend using 3(!!!!!!!) different(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) character classes.

BAM here it is, UNLIMITED TACTICS FIRST SECRET OUTSIDER (AND BLOG)-EXCLUSIVE PRE-ALPHA
http://www.mediafire.com/?519wop7ja59101u#1

anyways you'll just wanna go ahead and download that sketchy looking exe there, too small to be a virus really, and run it. then you'll wanna make some characters and teams in the team builder. then you're gonna wanna go ahead and send your team file to a friend who has the game, and they will hopefully send you theirs.

oh yeah and i didn't add anything to prevent people from just cheating ridiculously and editing their team files so don't do that

anyways then you'll go to the "free battle" option with your two teams and load up the teams in the same way as your opponent does and enter your names and crap (you can call your opponent "dickbutt" if ya want)

first you gotta place your guys on the grid, choose 'em from the menu and then click where you want 'em to go.

then bam, it's time to battle etc. the game's currently deterministic, which allows chess-by-mail style of multiplayer, so just hook up with your opponent or msn or spam this thread for all i care with stuff like "ok it was my character Rufus's turn, he moved to 3,4 and attacked your character Peter" and your opponent'll be like "alright cool g now it's Sally's turn and I'm moving her to 2,2 and she's gonna attack your guy Paul" etc etc etc

THIS IS MUCH EASIER THAN FIGURING OUT HOW TO DO ACTUAL ONLINE

i don't know how you want to figure out who gets to place who where in which order at the start but i'm sure a system can be "ad hocced".

anyways i hope all the battling and such is fairly intuitive. any action you click is controlling the character showing up in the "active character" box, cancel to go back through menus, click the grid to do stuff and then click go to do it s'more... i dunno dick around you'll figure it out.

i suggest doing 3v3s, 'cause it gets boring fast. actually though i think even at this infant state it's kinda fun, and i think it'll be pretty cool when i add more stuff. that's just me though.

anyways i mainly posted this for three reasons:
-to see if it runs on computers other than my own
-so i can beat up people with my team of one piece-themed characters
-so people who like this idea can shout ideas at me

uh everything in it should work, i think, as long as you don't go out of your way to break things. don't do that.

soon i'll add... more classes, a magic system with mp and such, alternate attacks, selectable static abilities, equipment...

i'd like to add actual graphics and online but i don't know how yet ;_;

anyways that's been my project this week

tl;dr play my game

oh wait emergency edit: i just remembered that i didn't get around to fixing things if two characters have the same name so AVOID THAT because it BREAKS EVERYTHING.

oh and my friend just said he needed .net 4.0 so um if you don't have that this might be troublesome.

DOESN'T THAT LOOK LIKE... FUN??
