Jamie, my Intentions are Blog

Hello Blogfans

Today we’ll take a look at some anime, some music, things like that. How novel!

Hyouka

I was really happy to see that the Kanya festival is more than two episodes. Like they even spent two episodes just on the first day, maybe each day will get at least one? It’s a great arc regardless. Like I mentioned before nothing has captured the idea of a school festival this well, all the side stories are fun and create some good character depth, and the overarching mystery is doled out in a pretty smooth and engrossing pace. Mayaka’s plot is especially compelling. So good job Hyouka! The animation isn’t as show-offy good as it was in the beginning but it’s still amazing. New OP and ED are great too. It seems Kyoani is already teasing their next series, I’m looking forward to that. I still have to watch the K-ON movie too. Exciting!

Kokoro Connect

So for real when I started watching this show, I already knew the premise, and I thought the characters were already switched, and that this is why they were being so over the top etc. But nah that’s just how they made these characters, I guess. They grew on me pretty quick though. The premise itself though is pretty crazy. It looks like the long-term format of this is gonna be MC guy has a pseudo-harem via helping everyone with their problems while body-swapped and his friend Aoki there isn’t gonna get anything, lel. Seems the like they’ll usually do like a comic body-swap at the beginning of each episode and then a serious one later. I’m alright with all of this. I’m also alright if we never get any further investigation into the supernatural aspects of it. I just don’t care, really. I’m liking the characters and the art design and that’s good enough for me to follow this casually if I don’t start forgetting to. I’m just glad that Yui’s androphobia was dealt with in one episode ‘cause that’s sort of a bummer of a plot aspect. And it was interesting to see them deal with the situation with the typical gender roles reversed, even if it was in voice only. Is the pretty comic resolution in bad taste? Probably yeah but I’d have to check SA to be sure =\. I dunno about the lesbian girl being set up as like a “villain”, though, that could be really lame if it gets too serious. At any rate I think this show is like a B+ so far.

One sort of thing I find interesting with just the premise in general though is the possibility that this could just lead to total ego dissolve. There was this scene where they were sitting around and talking and I was trying to figure out if there was gonna be some twist where one was in another’s body – for awhile I thought there’d be like some sorta puzzle gimmick where you wouldn’t be told about a switch and it’d be like a funny twist – anyways I thought for a second “what if they didn’t know what body they were in?”. They spend so much time in all their bodies that they are as much all of the five as they are themselves. And they sort of stop caring when they switch because they are all so homogeneous now. I dunno. I think I could probably get what I’m almost envisioning a bit more concrete but I don’t really care that much about it.

Tari Tari

This is pretty nice and cute. I like singing so I like a show about singing. I haven’t seen the third episode yet but I liked how the second episode had something of a climax to it like, for awhile there I was convinced I had somehow downloaded the final episode from the future. I figured it’d be 12 episodes or whatever of them practicing for their first concert, people drop out and add in until we’re down to the main five, etc. But nah they had a concert right away, and they’re sorta adding in the characters gradually. I like it! I like the principal and the pregnant teacher too, but the music teacher might be too villainous. Production is nice too, the music is nice of course. Only thing is if they go back to more daily life level stuff after this it’ll feel like a step back in terms of intensity, and I don’t know how they could do otherwise. Oh well this still seems like a solid A-.

Sword Art Online

I tried watching this and I just could not even remotely care so bun whatever. If it’s good I’ll watch it all at the end.

YuruYuri

Episode 2 was pretty good, probably one of the least eventful episodes but I don’t even remotely care. Episode 3 was fantastic, though, it had basically everything. Lots of Sakurako and Himawari, lots of them with other characters which is even rarer. Lots of great Akari jokes that are sorta about her being invisible but not like, just that simple joke. And some Akane action! And oh man that NTRing scene, that’s brutal. I’m sorta worried I’ll end up being a fan of NTR. Good China-sue jokes too. Season 2 just keeps rolling along perfectly.

Rinne no Lagrange

I watched the first episode of season 2 and I was pretty impressed. I don’t want to write any more about it until I get more caught up.

Wow am I actually gonna watch 5 shows this season?

Probably not I dunno I am pretty lazy about keeping up with things. I also want to watch Jinrui but I haven’t even started it.

What other anime junk do you feel like talking about?

Uhh let’s look at some more Saimoe results.

First Prelims: Group 5

Holy cow, Saki is just stomping everything. That’s scary! I downloaded the show I think I might start watching it soon. Glad to see Yoshika and Karen do well, neither of those surprise me really. Not happy that Rise and Chitose didn’t make first prelims but I’m confident for them in second prelims. Nazuna making first prelims sorta surprises me but maybe she got more screentime in the second season, I haven’t watched that yet.

Group 6
Shana beating Taiga is pretty intense, those are two titans for sure. Glad to see Mayaka in a solid 4th, and Perinne making first prelims is good too. I didn’t know the pseudo-trap from Boku wa Tomodachi was so popular.

Group 7
More Saki sheesh. Erica has scored highest of any witch so far, I guess that isn’t too surprising. Kanon in first prelims seems sort of weird, is she one of the most popular TWGOK girls? I guess in the anime she’d be more popular cause you’d actually hear her singing and such. I don’t think my favorite girls actually appeared in the anime so whatever. Yuuko and Nazuna I hope make second prelims, I think they have a pretty decent shot.

Group 8
Ahh, and now a Saki girl has beaten TOSHINO KYOUKO. Is Saki the official “villain” of Saimoe 2012, like the Raildex alliance was last year? Seems it might be that way. Or I could watch the show and love it and totally flip on that. I dunno. Sorta surprised to see Marika beat Madoka, I had the popularity of those shows all backwards I guess. Really happy to see Nori make first prelims.

Group 9
Nyaruko is no surprise I guess since she, more than any other character I can think of, is like engineered moe. I watched the first episode of this show and I dunno, it was weird. Never had I seen pandering so blatant and frequent. The frequency was actually such that I couldn’t tell when one sort of pandering had ended and another had begun. They had everything, scream service, otaku service, reference service, regular fanservice, fighting, catchphrases, even the OP had like, aural pandering... this isn’t even covering all of the first episode. It was nauseating and surreal and the biggest source of confusion is how it could be so unentertaining despite all this chaos. And of course there’s the whole like, is the Lovecraft estate going to use their dark powers to destroy Japan? thing. But yeah she won and Yamada got a well deserved silver. This was a pretty stacked pool, all things considered. Miki, Yui, Erio, Hinata and Lynette would all have top 5 potential in other groups, I think.

Group 10
Wow another Saki top 2, how many characters does this show have anyways? Thing with prelims though is that if a lot of people sorta like it they’ll do well because people don’t really have to vote against it. We’ll see how well they do when they lose the semi-support of whatever fanbase they have to actually compete with. The rest of this group basically makes sense, I wish Miyako was higher but what can you do? Kinda surprised Run is in first prelims, I didn’t know the A-Channel fanbase was so persistent. I’d forgotten that show existed at all.

Okay that’s all the Saimoe for now, what else is new?

WonderFest is soon, hopefully I’ll get a “comprehensive guide of what I want to waste my money on” up soon after.

Lil B – Task Force

This this Lil B’s 9th mixtape of 2012. It’s another hour and twelve minutes of Lil B! Insane!! I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but I’ve heard “Stick” like a hundred times in the last day because it’s AMAZING. Maybe I’ll do a live review of the whole tape later, I haven’t done one of those lately. I love how he can alternate styles so well now, like, this is closer to the going hard Flame-series style while Rich After Taxes was closer to something more contemplative like Gods Father. I really want to join the Lil B Task Force but I don’t think I’m based enough yet.

I think there was gonna be something else in this blog post...

Oh yeah, I watched that Adam Sandler movie Jack and Jill

I have this fascination with bad movies where I hear about them and I just can’t believe they exist. Like, I just cannot convince myself that there is actually a video I can watch with this premise that goes on for like an hour and a half or whatever. It is a really base, almost perverse desire, one motivated entirely by a sort of masochistic morbid curiosity. But the flame is dead. After watching Jack and Jill I have no desire to see any movie ever again. This is all I will say about it. Everything you heard about how bad that movie was was overrating it.

I think that’s it?
