Song of the Day #9: Sufjan Stevens - The Transfiguration

A Cloud Appeared...

Wow this is a pretty major change from previous Songs of the Day but whatever. Sometimes I get really addicted to a song like this too. This basically everything I want from ol' Sufjan... a slowly intensifying feeling structured around adding in more parts, the specific elements of girls singing backup, a melancholy horn, religious lyrics, a banjo, etc, etc. What a fantastic song! I think he ended up reusing part of the melody of the chorus on Chicago, lol. Something about the process behind this song, like, what I feel he must have done to go about creating it... picturing the sort of desire he had behind making this song I find very compelling and comforting.
